Pros
The company used to be a great place to work. I have learned many great business strategies and have received amazing customer service training. The caliber of people I work with is also amazing. I have met some great and life long friends at TCS. If I was writing this a couple years ago I would have had paragraph upon paragraph praising the company. I'm sorry to say that is not the case now.
Cons
The management just doesn't get it. They are so worried about looking out for the company and for themselves that they have lost sight of the fact that it's the employees, the regular part-timers, that they treat like crap, that keep the company afloat. The managers do not know how to preform basic tasks that most if not all of the part-time staff does day in and day out, and they are the ones that are telling us what to do and "running" the store. The full timers are, for the most part, pretty good but many of them also find ways of passing the labor off to the insignificant and expendable part-time workers. The other thing that is ridiculous is the new scheduling. I understand that we hold the fact that we have "never fired" someone (which is crap) very near and dear to our company heart. And on many occasions it's been brought up, again, and again, that we are consistently in the top 100 companies to work for. Just because we don't fire someone does not make us one of the best 100 companies to work for. In fact, in my opinion, that should be a reason that we are not on the list! Even the top 10 companies fire people. Firing an employee does not make you a bad company, it makes you a more efficient company. Instead of giving us 3 hour shifts, take stock of who you have working for you. I could list off a handful of people right off the top of my head that just come in and go through the motions. Give those hours to people who come in every shift and give it their all. I could go on but what is the use. It's not like it's going to do any good anyway. This company has had it's glory day, it's moment in the sun, it's swan song. The Container Store may continue to grow in it's numbers, but it is withering and dying in it's culture and it's promise to be one of the best companies to work for.
