Pros

Might be better than being unemployed. Might not. Depends on how abusive your manager is.

Cons

The IT Department is an absolute mess with an awful culture. In my 15 year career, it's the worst I've ever seen. Incredibly low morale. Incredibly high turnover. Verbal and psychological abuse from middle managers. Zero leadership from upper management who should step in and fire abusive people. I worked here for 4 (very long) months before returning to my former employer (a major university in NYC). During my 4 months, about 10 people left IT who worked in my area out of 50 people. Those who didn't leave were trying to leave. Now that I'm gone, former co-workers are asking me if there are any openings where I work.

Pros

Nice laptop, very happy go lucky staff that were all about change, but didn't really know what they were doing.

Cons

Very poor management at TFA. I wish that there was more oversight of the managers and more training for managers to be better.

Pros

- Partners with local universities so you can earn your masters - You will meet some likeminded people

Cons

- A LOT of corps members view this as a stepping stone to pad their resumes - A LOT of corps members have hurtful prejudices against low income communities or students of color, due to lack of prior exposure - TFA summer training is only 4 weeks. It is essentially, for all practical purposes, useless My biggest gripe with this program, is that a handful of students made my life hell. My other 90 students were fine, but with these 5 in one class admin refused to assist me. They would consistently use racial slurs against me, throw things at me, and physically get violent with me. I made TFA aware of this and they did absolutely nothing to help me. Corps members are going into schools that are in dire need of experienced educators, not fresh "elite" college graduates who essentially have to learn teaching on the fly. They preach they are for racial equity, but they treat their corps members of color, at least in my region, like tokens.
