Pros

Some really great, genuine coworkers and talented creatives. Hardworking individuals that care about the happiness and success of others. Overall great camaraderie between teams and you will make some true friends here. Great vacation policy and health benefits.

Cons

After working at Tastemade for several years, I avoided writing a review of this company to put the past behind me. However, I feel the need to speak up due to the inadequacy and lack of professionalism I have seen recently from the HR department. PLEASE. STOP. WRITING. FAKE. REVIEWS. You know who you are. Employees from company’s past and present are reading, sharing and laughing at the overt attempts to boost the company’s outward appearance. Please, to any new applicant who is considering Tastemade, look past the ridiculous 4 and 5 star reviews that beam about the leadership at this company. I guarantee ANYONE currently working there will give you a different perspective.

Pros

Unlimited vacation Flexible WFH policy Medical and 401k benefits

Cons

I've never worked with more under-qualified and uneducated people in my entire professional career. HR aimlessly scrolls through Linkedin with no understanding of each team's unique needs, and brings on new hires who don't even fit the mold of the basic job description. From the poor hiring and onboarding, to the non-existent training for new employees, HR has set this company up for failure. This is a hostile work environment, where no one take ownership of their work or responsibility for their actions. The entire company is constantly pointing fingers at each other. There is no sense of community here, even on your own team. Job stability is slim to none. Spontaneous, non-performance based lay offs are monthly, and spearheaded by the corrupt upper management. After bragging about a PPP grant that would protect the jobs of all Tastemade employees, the CEO laid off ~130 people (contract and full time) on a company-wide Zoom meeting, only offering those affected 2 weeks of severance pay.

Don't fall for the hype

Pros

-Free weekly lunches -Unlimited vacation -Pretty decent amount of autonomy -Opportunities to be creative

Cons

Where do I start. HR is not really HR, it's just a person who has no idea what they are doing. I was lied to from the start. About everything. My title, my compensation, my benefits, everything. Nothing regarding your job offer is truly done in writing so they can lie to you. No one at the company takes responsibility for ANYTHING. It's a constant finger pointing of who did and said what working there. Leadership is terrible and the sales team is prioritized while the team members building the campaigns are underpaid and under valued. And not to mention the countless sexual misconduct cases that HR and upper management seem to turn a blind eye to. Layoffs are frequent, the people are mainly unfriendly (in certain offices), it's a money machine. They do nothing if it is not prioritizing their bottom line, including hiring more qualified staff, an actual HR department, and taking care of their freelance/permalance staff who basically keep this company afloat. As an employee there you are disposable and there is zero company culture. I was vastly overworked. From the outside looking in, it seems like a cool company, but don't fall for the hype. I've worked at many media companies and this was by far the worst.

We are sorry that the experience you had wasn't what you expected. We operate with a culture of open communication (to the point where any employee can chat with our CEO directly), and while it's no solace at this point, we would have welcomed your input on all of the points you've outlined here. Regarding the alleged misconduct mentioned, we take those very seriously and are surprised by this claim. We invite you to contact our People Ops team directly so that we can understand where this is coming from and address it appropriately. Finally, we do recognize the value of our team -- they are the cornerstone of Tastemade's success, and we believe that it is this recognition that has consistently enabled us to retain the best and brightest talent across all of our teams. We wish you the best of luck, People Ops.
