The workload is horrendous. As I said in the title, maximum work for minimum wage. As I write this, they recently "reconfigured" the starting pay to $8.25. Still, not enough to keep me working there. I was there a little over a year, and you really do not have time to get to know your co-workers because you are constantly working on "zoning and returns" for your area. Each person usually had two aisles to work by themselves in hardlines, or one to two departments in softlines. So, pretty much you are by yourself working with the merchandise. If you work part time, you only get a 15 minute break - my store had the break room at one end of the store, and the restroom was at the opposite end of the store. If you had to go to the bathroom, it pretty much left you 10 minutes or less to wolf down something to eat, much less time to get to know any of your co-workers. The team member recognition cards that they force you to write everyday are a joke. They seem to think that these cards are a replacement for giving you a decent raise. Our raises last year ranged from nothing to 18 cents! Most of us worked our butts off and that is all they gave us!. My own review was given to me by someone who didn't even write it. They gave me a mediocre review for hardlines, although I worked mostly in softlines. They scored me on things that are only done in the morning, such as map moves and creating item substitution signs, even though I only worked at night. The DS who gave the review even told me he didn't even agree with it. I hated how some ETL's hovered and lurked around pretending to work when it was so obvious that they were watching you. There was blatant favoritism also with some of the DS and office associates- which, I'm sure it is like that everywhere. These chosen ones got all the hours while "working" (i.e. socializing, walking around the store, shopping).
