Pros

Good Discount Lots of free product (for store managers/resident chefs, PT employees have lots of opportunities to win Great training material for everyone

Cons

I could go on forever. As a Store Manager, you are viewed less as a manager, and more as The Best Salesperson. Yeah, I can sell. But true skills in management are wasted, as there is actually no control by Store Managers. Exact hours for scheduling your store are dictated, with no ability to control for your specific locations needs. I would go from being able to give employees 30 hours a week, to maybe 8 the following, and have to tell them they needed to stay available for the possibility of 30. I had some great people, and was proud of achieving great KPI's, comps, and doing well. But it was never enough. Even when you're in the top of your district or company. Up 200% to goal? What could you have done to increase conversion? I'm not kidding, that was a factual experience. Maybe I just had a bad District Manager. I was there during the CEO transition, and and many transitions before that. Every time, there was hope things would get better, but they would not. Bottom line, it would be a good management position for someone who has actually never managed before. Because you're not managing, your the mouthpiece for corporate, who often is clearly out of touch

Pros

best and only reason to work at sur la table is 40 percent discount on full priced merchandise. Customers often receive better discounts than employees on sale items.

Cons

Only store manager is hired to work full time. You must give up your life from October until January and work every weekend even if you have worked for years weekdays only. New hires are not trained but just thrown in for the holidays. Store quality has deteriorated significantly over the past few years. Stores resemble discount stores with lots of big sale signs and poor quality items.

Pros

Everyone tries hard and you can get an employee discount. It can be a lot of fun if you love cooking and kitchen gadgets. Pretty good work-life balance, so you won't be overworked.

Cons

It's all about filling up the cash registers and making the private equity firm that owns them happy. Senior management says one thing one day, one thing the next day, and another thing the day after that. The people in charge only care about being right, not about being better. It's amazing anyone gets anything done. Don't even think about having any ambition or getting more responsibility. Stress and frustration are really high, and there are plenty of crazy people running around trying to take care of something some executive told them to do. It would be funny if it wasn't kind of sad.
