Pros

Endless free coffee. Reasonable employee discount. But I simply could not stand to be there long enough to see if there were any other perks.

Cons

Completely lied to me in my interviewed. I was told that the floor staff were not encouraged to compete for sales, and there were no daily quotas. This were both flat-out lies. I was also expected to drop everything and schedule my life entirely around them, even though they knew from the start I had another job. I was promised in my interview that I would get 12-15 hours a week. When I started working I never got more than 6 scheduled hours a week, but would constantly be called to come in on days I wasn't scheduled, or asked to stay late when I was already there. NOT what I was looking for at all.

Pros

Great co-workers. Good discount. A pretty store that caters to people with pretty kitchens and serious cooks. Flexible hours if you get a good manager.

Cons

Low pay for what you're expected to know and retain about the enormous range that is stocked. They are a specialty seller, they should retain staff that is up to the task, pay them as if they've noticed them. Allow workers to average more than 12 hours (on the high end!) a week. It is unrealistic to expect the staff to stay on through "love" alone, respect shows up in the paycheck. No one should have to close a store at 10:00 at night, and show up for shipment the next day at 6:00 AM.

Pros

Employee discount, fun work environment, great co-workers

Cons

The pay is insulting, especially for classically trained chef-instructors. Very poor management from resident chef. Corporate doesn't seem to care about its employees at all. No incentives or bonus for good work. Recipes are way too complicated and have too many components. Some recipes have as many as 27 ingredients and is a lot of prep for a two-hour class.
