Pros

Support staff ie: customer service & fellow sales reps are FANTASTIC!

Cons

The Canadian division is so small, there is no room for advancement. Management is horrible, some with no knowledge or experience in dental whatsoever, and no interest in teaming up with the outside reps to learn about the industry. Only interested in micromanaging and bullying. No new innovative products, only refurbished ones. Ridiculous amount of administration with little/no time to do it. Unrealistic sales targets with no support to drive sales ie: online ordering, social media, commercials, retail presence, new innovative products. Salary, benefits & bonus (if attained) are not in line with the workload. There is a limit to the amount of money you can make at this company, and the road to get there is a stressful one, IF you are able to get there at all. Favoritism is a definite issue.

Pros

Please don’t consider as an employer.

Cons

If you’re considering joining, please take all reviews as understated comments. Life at Sunstar is stifling, frustrating, lacks integrity in management and enables a culture which existed 40 years ago. Lots of long timers who don’t accept any improvements, leadership demonstrates “blind leading the blind” results. You will not learn anything, unless you’d like to brush up on 40 year old systems and ways of working. This is pervasive in all countries, not limited to US. HR has no presence, OLD systems (AS400 without even the full functionality of it! Imagine that?) employee disengagement is rampant, in all units, most functions. If you find yourself enticed by a title or salary, it is NOT worth it.

Pros

Paycheck, if you don't mind being paid below industry standard.

Cons

Been here for multiple years, minimal (like 2) promotions from within. This is really a dreadful place. Lots of new employees in Sales, Marketing, Regulatory and Engineering. Would have liked to have been a fly on the wall in those interviews. Many of the people hired are completely unqualified for their positions and those that are qualified, are not being promoted. There are two long-time employees that consistently make it hard to get anything done. They have 20+ years at the company and hold their power closely and will negate or blow you off. The product management system/sales/inventory system is from the 1980s and is DOS based. It does not interface with the brand new shipping system without tons of manual work between the two systems. IT is behind the times dramatically. No policy for work from home. Individual Managers allow or disallow, but everyone is afraid HR will find out. People spill stuff on the relatively new carpet, but don't tell building maintenance, because they will be reported to HR for spilling. Despite relatively new facilities, they are filthy and ill maintained, unless Management from Japan is coming then everything is spruced up. Also, many packaging functions manual and operations shuts down when Japan comes so that Japan won't find out that their US operations still have manual functions. Best seller went on back order because production stopped for 2 week Japan visit.
