Pros

As a long term partner some of the benefits like Stock Options, even though not worth anything now keep me around as well as the vacation time I get annually. Probably the best thing overall is only have to putting in about a 40 hour work week compared to 50 or 60 at other restaraunt chains.

Cons

LITTLE PAY!!! No matter what level you work at you are compensated poorly. If you are an interal promotion you will make anywhere from 10 to 40 percent less than someone hired externally no matter how long you have worked for the company. Length of employment does not matter with pay. Now that we only pay minimum wage in most markets for baristas you now have to deal with managing teenagers and immature college kids instead of professional adults or people looking to make a career with the company. Another downside is the amount of unnecessary paperwork, charts, checklists, etc that everyone must do at every level. Most people have no idea how "complicated" it is to make a simple cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Pros

Alright money for a student Never had a hard time getting off work Paid vacation days are awarded based on the hours you work and add up to a decent amount Bonuses (if the store did well that year) were a welcome surprise You are only required to work 20 hours for benefits and they were decent benefits Corporate would even give you a small scholarship if you pretend your going to school to better their company "Bean Stock" the company gives you small shares of their stock for nothing Free pound of coffee a week (probably one of my favorite perks) Free "partner beverage" within an hour of your shift beginning or ending (or during... or actually any time, the register never stopped me even if I didn't work that day) I can't even imagine the amount of free food I got there (hundreds of dollars of sandwiches to take home is great for a poor college student living with his friends in a crappy apartment)

Cons

Not exactly somewhere to take pride in Your shoes smell like old milk after a while You can move up to become a shift (a couple dollars more an hour) but not much higher People assume your dumber than they are because you make drinks for just over minimum wage (may be true)
