Pros

People are amazing, passionate about coffee and genuine. The brand is strong and unique, nothing like it. Howard Schultz, is a visionary and inspirational leader. Not typical to have the founder to be present and involved at a Fortune 500 company.

Cons

Very top heavy organization. Decision-making only at the president level. Very hierarchical and political. Focused too much on career or school pedigree and not on potential in employees.

Pros

Benefits and support. We have some great benefits (stock purchase, stock grant, 401k, etc). The culture is one of community service and team work. Most employees work here because this is the company they want to work for. This draws like minded talent to the company.

Cons

Change moves slow. The buy in for projects and initiatives is long and drawn out. Whole projects have been delayed years when a director level employee wants to keep the status as is for as long as possible. The culture does not allow for direct confrontation or an aggressive management style. The Northwest itself is very passive aggressive and it is amplified at the HQ.

Pros

Free drinks on shift, free coffee weekly, regular customers.

Cons

Being treated like a 2 year old by DM ( who was an external hire and was not supportive at all) NO life / work balance at all. NO sleep routine due to store hours, no "proper" system in place when someone is sick. As an SM you have to work if there is no replacement barista. This means working a 17/18 hour day if necessary. TOTALLY illegal but all Sbux cares about is running the business and not taking care of it's people.Their Mission Statement would have you believe otherwise, but don't be fooled. Write ups for the smallest infraction which can harm morale of the team. I felt as if l was in kindergarten and was forced to make everyone else feel that way. A micro managing DM who had no personality and didn't encourage anyone else to have one either. If you want a job where you are able to do as are told, have no independent thoughts because EVERYTHING is controlled then this job is for you. If, like me, you have more than half a brain cell and are capable of independent thought, then this is definitely NOT the job for you!
