A company that lacks growth and structure
Pros
Good people to work with, everyone is very friendly and encourages the work-life balance. People are very social and actually take their lunch breaks and talk to each other, you feel very included. Projects are very interesting (when they come in) and line managers take career progression and support seriously. Some opportunity to do more challenging tasks.
Cons
Stantec needs major improvement in terms of the decisions made by those at the top and how the company itself functions as it affects workers at the bottom. I got laid off due to a lack of work coming in, and this was really down to my (former) manager being incompetent at her job and not being able to secure work from clients. Manager was very toxic and had poor mental health too and seniors were very slow to respond to her removal. Work comes in waves so you're left with periods of time with little to no work. Also the merger with Barton Willmore has had no structure or pace to it, and it's clear Stantec are just looking for more profit but fail to incorporate sustainability and a people-centered approach in their business strategy. Hence, and this is a MAJOR point - a lot of middle managers leave so most of the employees are grads or very very senior directors. The young folks see the gaps in the company and leave for better jobs elsewhere.
