Pros

Nothing in favor of the organization as far as financial shared service is concerned.

Cons

-Micromanagement is present, management tries to control every action of the employee, treating employees as robots. - Rules like school are imposed like not logging out without permission, and restricting conversation on the floor. - Harsh and unprofessional language is used by management in one to one meetings. -Leave practices not defined properly and deliberately too much time taken for approval, discussion of personal reason of employee takes place before approval. -No work life balance and no flexibility of work whatsoever, management forces the employees to work for uncompensated hours. -Management is selfish and only thinks about their own comfort zone as far as financial shared service is concerned and treats employees the way they want without following any work ethics. -Permission is required for every action of an employee while in the office. -Employee centric policies of the organization are not being followed by financial shared services. -Department is monopoly of 4-5 people.

Pros

Big company and ability to branch out and work on different types of projects. Make sure you do your research on the actual team you're working with, like any other place! And don't count on the good or bad name of Stantec. Because they have acquired so many firms that the groups you're working with won't really be Stantec! And every group is going to be very different.

Cons

Depending on which team and which geographic region you work with, there seems to be no oversight, and rather only hinderance from head offices, especially if you are part of a recently acquired firm. There is the opportunity to grow to some extent, but it all and solely depends on your manager and his/her managers, and your luck with them. There is not a well established system for that (only words). Companies that get acquired get neglected and the employees of those firms get discouraged.

Pros

Office building laid out to encourage teamwork between the various disciplines.

Cons

Glass offices equal a lack of confidentiality when speaking to management. Everyone knows who was talking to who and can tell if it is a serious conversation by reading body language. Should you require short-term disability, they will initially pay you the first week and then cut you off sighting that you do not qualify (even though you have paid for the coverage). They will push you until you seek legal advice and even then, they will deny you the money owed. They ignore medical documentation and ignore your requests to see a physician you they choose. Stantec is NOT a mental health friendly company, nor are they friendly when they realize that you can no longer 'tow the company line' of "do as we say not what your employment contract claims" or leave.
