Limited training and disorganized systems
Pros
- Good benefits including 401k, vacation, access to rec center and other facilities, funds that cover extracurricular learning - comprehensive cancer center - competitive pay compared to other universities
Cons
- Most processes are antiquated and disorganized. Many things are done with paper and involve multiple people for a task that could be done with the click of a button by one person at other Universities/Companies. Attempts to make a positive change or streamline any process is usually dismissed or hits a dead end. - Limited patient contact depending on your PI. Besides scheduling appointments, I rarely spoke or met with patient's for consenting or study procedures. - Unless you get lucky and join a team with a good doctor, there is minimal support and training on Stanford processes. But if you make a mistake or can't keep up with the intense work load, its your fault for not being good enough. - Good work is seldom recognized and there is rarely any positive reinforcement. The only motivation to not make a mistake is so that you don't get yelled at or reprimanded in front of your peers and colleagues.
