Pros
Great reputation So many jobs available internally, decent prospects for advancement Work among like-minded, intelligent people Sense of accomplishment/pride working for an org making such great sci/med, etc. discoveries Often work with many partners from other interesting Stanford units University holidays and winter break Great place to get a start in your career
Cons
Academic org salaries do not compete with industry Difficult and/or unusual to get bonus -- even annual salary increases are not high (though this is also dependent on dept) and are not necessarily taking inflation into consideration Somewhat of a burnout culture, high expectations, high workload and high standards Faculty above all others -- little genuine appreciation for administrative teams Even 4-6% raise range is talked about as high for a full blown promotion
