Pros

You work for SpaceX, vest the stocks, add to resume and jump out asap

Cons

WORK WORK WORK WORK. Lot's of hours, incredible hours sometimes 60+. Seemingly for no reason but to exhaust budget. Not much direction as things seem the be winged last minute and production can change without notice mid build which tells me management isn't doing the best job at overseeing the schedule. It seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing, which again wastes time mid build breaking down and setting up a new build. All builds halted get put on engineering hold rack which usually has over 200+ items and by the time we are ready to work back around to it, more often that not it's obsolete or on a much further revision.

Pros

Some of the most satisfying content in the aerospace industry. Groundbreaking stuff. Bragging rights allowed! Lots of available OT if thats your thing. Most cases, benefits start 1st day. PTO and sick days accrue fairly and quickly.

Cons

Your office/cell/workstation is your home. Here at SpaceX, you will be expected to live, eat and breathe the miracle culture they have. You'll spend almost no time at home. Most times, you'll be expected to run a 60+ hour work week and then management will literally guilt trip you to work a full shift on Saturdays. Pay is subpar, and below average for the industry, cost of living in the local area, and work expectations. Good luck reaching the highest levels of your pay scale too, as its mathematically impossible to achieve. It was designed that way by the way... Parking is atrocious. Although you can download an app to get a bicycle to pedal to your area. Training rarely reflects on floor production.

Pros

Fast pace Pretty much unlimited resources Budget isnt really an issue Passionate, intelligent team members Awesome projects, full ownership and you are sometimes able to see a project all the way through design to environmental test. Depending on the team, social culture is great. The company is very casual. The food options in Hawthorne are YUM. Great, amazing people, really great place to learn. Stock options are very appealing The way to survive here is by hard-enforcing your own work life balance and keeping yourself at a distance from personal work friendships

Cons

Bro culture (while not everywhere) is certainly bred within the company, which can be very toxic. HR really has no power over employees especially if you're an intern or have not been employed as a full timer for years. As a female, I would sometimes get unprofessional attention from male techs which was generally uncomfortable. Some managers are great, but some just aren't a good fit for the role, and if you get stuck with the latter, you're screwed as an intern. Some managing/mentoring individuals can either be the most amazing people you've ever met, OR very type A or can be rude which can really erode an association with the team especially amongst interns (unfortunately HR cares to do nothing about this common issue) The company has also on numerous occasions punished people for speaking out as whistleblowers, which this past summer got multiple people fired and the issues they wrote about in the open letter were never addressed to employees. There is also a huge burn out culture here. This reminds you that you are expendable. Hundreds of very smart engineers could easily take over your role once the life is sucked out of you after working 12-14 hour days for months on end to meet ridiculously tight ("spicy") deadlines that with better upper management might potentially be slightly mitigated.
