Pros

There are not any pros that I can come up with. They steadily took away every good thing the company started with.

Cons

Unreliable hours They refuse to do anything about sexual harassment and often blame the victim Look at the employees like they are all criminals while they let the members steal them blind and destroy products Fire people for petty reasons They change the rules often and expect you to know about the changes, then wonder why people are breaking the new rules and penalize them hard The 'open door' is broken Getting managers to listen to the situation you need help with is like trying to herd cats Expect you to work outside in terribly bad weather The managers penalize you for following the directions of the training modules and work code of ethics if it is inconvenient for them. EG, the rules say that in cases of extreme heat we can come in and cool off as needed, but they expect you to be outside 100% of the time even if it is ghastly hot outside As of October 2014 they took away benefits from part timers If they fire you, even if you challenge it, they will block you from getting Unemployment If you report unethical behaviors you witness, you are put on the short list to go Opportunities to advance are promised, but slim to none and go towards the favorites, even if they don't deserve it

Pros

I really enjoyed the people I worked with. We were a tight knit group. There are plenty of avenues for advancement (depending on the market). My first GM started at Sam's as a cart associate.. If you can withstand the work hours and a few other things, a career with Sam's can be rewarding - especially financially.

Cons

Hours, for all employees. It's retail though - this is a given. The company relies heavily on the revenue generated from upgrading memberships. Be prepared to sell memberships in any position. Management receives a lot of pressure from their superiors about these sales.

Pros

Great associate culture. Competitive salaries. Community service.

Cons

Continuously cut payroll from the clubs, while demanding higher results and member service standards. Major restructures from the clubs all the way to divisional level every few years. Leadership from the MKT level up are very out of touch with what's happening in the clubs.
