Pros

Pros: - Great people to work with - airline industry veterans, well qualified employees - Interesting products - Sabre has a broad suite of solutions catering to the airline industry Most of the products solve hard problems and hence it's very good work for employees looking for intellectually stimulating work - Flexible work culture

Cons

Cons: - No visibility in terms of career progression in the bangalore office. " Why should I stay in Sabre Bangalore for 5 years?" - that question is not answered. Many people stick around for 2-3 years, gain good experience and get out - Job titles are evolving as the company grows - please negotiate your designation properly, The career progression is typically very slow here compared to other companies. So the mapping between old job title and new job title is invariably a disappointment to many new joinees - Sabre hires pretty smart people who do contribute well to the business, but when it comes to time or appraisal time, "we haven't met our results" and so you are getting squat - Poor project management practices - You can be pretty sure the first deadline is not met, mostly because an unrealistic deadline was set without thinking about resource availability - Lots of attrition, so there are a number of new managers who themselves don't know company policies too well - Lots of travel but no stipend or per diem, just expense based on actuals - While Sabre has a number of solutions, not all the solutions are "customer ready" but are still rolled out anyway, bugs and all

Pros

New employee salary levels are respectable and the "prestige" of working for a company of this size and reputation in the travel and tourism industry. The company is quite flexible with allowing employee's time off when they need it (they recently switched to a PTO concept versus sick days/vacation days). They are pro work-from-home advocates for those whose jobs support the concept.

Cons

One doesn't get a strong feeling that a clear and solid direction for the company is laid out. Acquisition of other travel related businesses is like a feeding frenzy and often it's hard to tell where one company ends and another begins or who owns what and does what and for how long. The best way for employee's to see who Sabre owns on any given day is to go to the website and watch them scroll across the bottom! The company is almost freakishly hell-bent on having offices in other countries and then ties jobs in those other offices directly to peers in the Texas offices which then makes departmental or team meetings awkward and scheduling them (via conference calls) a nightmare, e.g., 11pm locally to for an 8am meeting in India and vice versus. It's impossible to build a rapport or relationship with your peers when they are half way around the world. The ongoing practice of a "RIF" (Reduction In Work Force) never allows one to feel secure in their position and the idea or concept of having a career at Sabre is non-existent and is more like a stopping point along the path to the other place you will have a career. The company does absolutely nothing to help a legacy employee move into another area of work if he or she is affected by a RIF. You are allowed XX days to apply for other jobs within the company but you are on your own, whether your tenure is 3 years or 30! There is absolutely zero sense of unity or "family" here.
