Pros

Pay, meet people from all over the world

Cons

Stuck in location - rarely gain opportunity to work abroad A lot of in-house politics - people chosen based on who you know on not what you do in the company. Pay is good but not worth the number of hours spent on the rig or in the office, 3 year Fixed Programme is an illusion - with the current downturn, promotions are delayed.

Pros

Good training and an excellent stepping stone company.

Cons

Would not advise anyone of this company especially Engineers to look at this company as a long term employer! This company went from "Pro Engineers" to the graveyard of smart and talented Engineers. they will put you in the nasty dangerous oilfield and expect you to do manual labor in order to succeed, and you have to report to people in some cases with high school diploma who's been in the oilfield for long time and they can't stand engineer who one day could end up being their boss. So many Engineers have lost their life working for Schlumberger while driving since you will be doing a considerable amount of driving to and from drilling rig locations while tiered and they put the responsibility totally on you which having themselves protected by labor laws. they expect you to stay up for more than 24 houres in some cases and punish you if you make a small mistake.
