Pros

Possible IPO, some very nice colleagues

Cons

Supposedly there will be an IPO and supposedly employees will benefit too. But it only came about when the founders and owners of the company failed to agree on price when they tried to sell SAS a couple of years ago. These same leaders waxed on over the years about how valuable employees were, only to try and sell the company to another company known for gutting their acquisitions and laying people off. I’m a very long term employee and I truly used to believe SAS was the best place to work. I bragged and felt lucky to work at SAS, but those feelings are completely gone. I’m just waiting now to see what happens. I don’t hold out much hope that employees will be treated well. What a sad end to what could have been a great legacy. I’m no fool, I’ll take the money (I’ve earned it after all the years of working well over the “35 hour work week” on non-competitive pay rates), but I’ll never forget the betrayal of employees by senior management.

Pros

Friendly people, on-site gym, childcare center, and sports to play

Cons

SAS is a mess now. People are leaving in droves. Management has failed to properly develop their talent and acknowledge their top performers. Compensation, raises, and bonus are not at all tied with the amount/quality of work accomplished. High amounts of office politics. The product is well below industry standard, however SAS survives another year based on past client relationships alone. It is a slow bleed as open source and companies closer to Silicon Valley continue to steal market share. With weaker tech, SAS further invested $1B in Viya which has proven to be buggy and painful to use even among SAS employees.

Pros

SAS provides good benefit to employees and thanks to that, my bills to Psychologist got paid. Beautiful campus and on-campus gym but its open hour is pretty much same as working hour. I didn't see a reliable hour for me to work out there except sacrificing my lunch time.

Cons

Very bad manager in my team. Day 1, he told me all we need to do is to make Jimmy Goodnight happy. I was not allowed to listen to the music while working in my office, etc. He is very unhelpful. Not only did he refuse to organize weekly meeting for team but he also rejected to make a meeting for me and someone else that can be helpful to my project and People in my team only care their own. Other than that, he is always condescending me since we have different opinions on a topic before. Thanks to him I have been suffering from depression issue for 2 and half years. Very bad source code. Many source codes were written years ago and poorly documented and they even said this is SAS culture. Even the author forgot what they are doing and also refused to provide any help. Very bad desktop I was given (was some former employee's and took them 3 months to give me a new one) Very unhelpful HR team. I talked to HR many times about the management issue in my team but they seem do not care. There is no future working here unless you want to retire in NC and just enjoy the current STABLE paycheck from them and not even enough for inflation (3 years and my salary increased 2% once) I have got a new offer ( x2.5 more than my current salary) from other company and leaving SAS soon
