Pros

SAS provides a good work-life balance for those with families or other personal demands. SAS places a lot of emphasis on amenities such as on-site gym, day care, cafeteria, health care facility, etc. Benefits and time off are good, if you can have a job function that allows you to actually use all of your vacation.

Cons

SAS provides limited growth opportunities and little emphasis is placed on career development. Compensation is below market for many positions, so it appeals more to working couples than to younger professionals or sole wage earners. SAS is very manual in many of its business processes, so it tends to be overstaffed rather than focusing on technically efficient ways of doing business.

Pros

Work/life balance and benefits! In my experience it's hard to beat what they offer here at SAS. There's no question what comes first around here and that's family. I find I can no longer participate in the gripe sessions with friends and family when they dog the company they work for....and that's a good thing! With onsite health care, gym and child care you really can't ask for much more and yet they find ways to throw in little extras here and there along the way. The people here are very friendly and I'm always met with warm, smiling faces. The campus is beautiful and even has nature trails and lakes.

Cons

Very large here at headquarters with 5000+ employees, so I feel like I work with a bunch of strangers at times. Being a software company, things are forever changing so just when you get use to something, a newer version comes along prompting changes. That's actually a good thing for me but some may not cope to well with change. There is a bit of nepotism going on here, but I couldn't say I wouldn't try to help my family members get on at this great company as well! I have to say the biggest thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of tuition reimbursement and gift matching. But i guess we can't have it ALL.

Pros

Benefits, culture, work-life are all great. 13% profit sharing for 30+ years is very strong. Its' truly a place where you can have it all - cutting edge work, professionla collegues and a life outside of work. The hype is true.

Cons

Pay is below market. Doesn't take to outsiders well. Guess that's the trade-off for having a life outside of work. And there can be a lot of poltics, depending on your level. Fir the average employee, its pretty benign. No equity. What happens when Goodnight retires or dies?
