Pros

30 % discount on all clothing except promotional items. Good bond with colleagues uniform allowance (dependent on how many days you work)

Cons

Ive not had a very good experience at River Island. I have been a sales assistant for three years at one of the stores in Glasgow. Let me give you a classic day at River Island. On point of arrival you are treated as though you are always in the way when trying to get your bag checked in (so they know what you have when you come into the store and is all your leaving with) even though it is forced upon you to do so. Once you are in the canteen you are often left standing due to there being a lack of space and seats. Once your manager decides to show up 2 minutes before your shift starts a very rushed rundown of the days targets are thrown at you with the occasional accusation that everyone is stealing in the store. Once you are out on the shop floor you are harassed by managers to serve a customer who you have already served twice before, resulting in the customer being so fed up of the constant harassment that they either leave or simply ignore you. At the end of your shift you need to make sure to all the clothes are perfectly sized and tidy for the following day. God Forbid a hanger isn't facing the right way around. The management is an embarrassment to the company and seem to think that they are on a different level from you. Don't be too surprised if you find them to be arrogant and self indulgent, this is perfectly normal, so it seems. Oh and always remember to lie to save your manager from a storm of abuse from someone higher than them. When being offered extra shifts it is assumed that you will do them. if you say you cannot a full scale inquiry is set up to answer the question of why you cannot do the shift. a simple no is not enough. When trying to buy something on your day off you are most definitely not treated like a customer but an annoyance because you get discounts.
