Pros

Colleagues are very easy to get along with. Product managers are approachable. 30% off clothing. Free uniform. Easy enough of a job, can be a fun working environment. Nice job.

Cons

Store manager not approachable. Limit to how much discount on clothing you have. Not flexible around your own time. Holiday has been designated so that you can't choose your own holidays. Lack of formal training given, being told what to do as opposed of trained correctly. Fashion isn't really on trend as such, particularly men's wear. Only permitted to have discounted clothing in your own store.

Pros

There was always a job that had to be done when you came into work which made your shift go extremely quickly. Mainly a youthful working cohort at River Island which was good if you were of a young age. Every manager and supervisor was approachable and easy to talk to. An intriguing working environment to work in if you were interested in fashion and the latest trends. Uniform benefits and the 30% discount were a massive pro for me.

Cons

The pay if you were under the age of eighteen was incredibly poor. Can deal with very difficult customers which would sometimes cause stress and demand a lot of calmness from the employee. River Island is a target of shoplifting so there were numerous people to keep an eye on on the shop floor. A very busy working environment especially at weekends and during sale time can cause a very hostile and stressful atmosphere. This can also amount to extra working hours having to be worked after/before shift such as prepping for the sale and to maintain standards on the shop floor after trading hours.
