Pros

Decent salary, more or less interesting projects

Cons

CTO mostly focuses on a form rather than substance, he cares deeply about naming things (how HE believes they should be, be ready to become a psychic), but ignores much deeper problems in the development process. For example, postmortems are written, but never discussed, sometimes after a heavy outage the conclusion is "we did everything right, it is just a coincidence", pretty much every second one. Usually no action but saying "do good, don't do bad" is taken. He surrounded himself with a bunch of yes-men platform team, which feels like more a pool of developers for personal pet projects rather than team that should help others. The only team whose time is valuable, is the platform team, they (or even CTO himself) can introduce breaking changes overnight and then the rest of the backend will do nothing for a couple of days but fix builds in their projects. A cherry on top: whole company uses same stack of dependencies without proper versioning, often reinventing the wheel. Be ready to receive at least once a week a message in a developers slack channel about new ridiculous changes in the development process that you need to remember to follow with zero effort to automate things. The most suffering people from these processes are POs who can't really plan to deliver features, since developers are distracted with BS tasks coming from platform/CTO on a daily basis. Public shaming is also a part of the culture, sometimes CTO drags a link to bitbucket into a public chat to let everyone to discuss what is wrong (in his opinion) with this particular piece of code.

We’re sorry that your experience sounds negative. We do pride ourselves on having a culture of open feedback, and we think that everyone can gain a lot from group learning sessions, but this is never for shaming purposes. Postmortems are written and openly accessible to all and most of the company uses a similar stack so that we can upgrade once and identify any bugs at the same time. We value our tech teams and developers very highly and value their knowledge and experience. As a very fast moving business, we do sometimes have to work at speed and to manage competing priorities but we do value thinking deeper and properly analysing the root causes of any problem. As a current employee we hope you will be able to raise your concerns with your manager or with HR. Thank you for taking the time to make these comments.

Pros

The day I handed in my resignation and left forever

Cons

Do yourself a favor and absolutely do NOT work for this toxic company! If you want work-life-balance, mental health, respect from coworkers/managers or a decent salary or benefits, Revolut is NOT your company I left after 6 months and I am now making 6 figures which you will never be able to do at Revolut. -I have never earned so little in my entire career. I have 13 years work experience and a Master's degree. Even when you achieve 100% of your target, you can look at something like 2k before tax. Also the base salary is ridiculous. I only took this job because I was laid off, otherwise I would have never accepted this (especially because you also cannot negotiate). Such a disgrace! -Managers keep insisting that the low salary is "market average", which means that they are completely clueless about the industry and reality. Revolut pays one of the lowest salaries in Sales that I ever came across -Extremely complicated commission scheme that is tied to 5-8 other factors to just get it at all (AE Formular, Activity, Performance Grade etc). Just to compare with my current company: I will get commission from working there - as it should be. It goes up if 100%, 150% or 200% are achieved. Done! It could be so easy. -This is the main reason for the extremely high staff retention: if someone works for Revolut for a year, they are considered a rarity. This is even mentioned in the global town halls. Most people try to make it to the 6 months mark, then they leave. 85% of my original team quit while I was employed and the others got fired. I had so many new colleagues in the meantime that I could not keep up with their names. Everyone came and left -Toxic work environment: you are expected to work late and the tasks you are given make you stay online for up to 50hours a week - without a lunch break! If you take your break, you will add 5 hours to your total per week -Managers are completely incompetent and have little to no skills. The Head of Sales in Europe did not know any of the abbreviations we were working with daily. Some people just made it into management because they either worked as AE's before and overachieved regularly (which does not mean that you are competent enough to work in management) or because they faked their way up -It is allowed to use foul language and swear words if you are management. It is allowed to shout, abuse and swear in meetings and nobody will stop them. If you complain, you will get fired -Managers are allowed to "transfer" accounts which lead to accounts and commission being stolen big time. -Colleagues were stealing prospects on a regular basis -Insanely high and unrealistic targets which make you work around the clock -No proper training. You start off with 2 weeks where they squeeze everything in they got and then they expect you to know everything. I had to put in countless hours to keep up with programs, regulations and changes and I had to do this in my free time. There is no downtime given to study at all. I never came across something like this in over 13 years -No growth options. The promotion process is complicated by choice and prohibits people from earning more and levelling up. Even overachievers are kept hanging by a thread -Grievance cases are usually rejected with a good outcome only for the company -Important departments are not responding in time or not at all: neither IT (we had a login issue that affected 60% of our customers and it was ongoing for more than 3 weeks so some of my clients lost over 100k in Crypto etc. – the management just did not care at all), neither HR (my laptop was picked up 3 months after I resigned, when I was already working for a new company) or other departments. They just do not reply! -Little to no benefits -Revolut only cares about making money, not about it’s people. You are a machine and a slave and you have absolutely nothing to say
