Pros

Working at the RAC as Head of Academy has been one of the most rewarding roles of my career. The organisation truly believes in developing people, and leading the RAC Academy gives you the opportunity to shape the future of the business in a meaningful way. Senior leadership are supportive and genuinely invested in the Academy’s success. There’s a strong sense of purpose, everything we do directly contributes to improving skills in our industry and helping our colleagues deliver exceptional service to members. The culture is collaborative and supportive, with lots of freedom to innovate and bring new ideas to life. I’ve always felt trusted to make decisions, lead strategy, and drive improvements. The focus on apprenticeships and long term talent development is real, not just a tick box exercise, and seeing apprentices grow from day one to fully qualified RAC patrols and SMR techs is incredibly fulfilling.

Cons

Like any fast paced operational business, priorities can shift quickly and you need to be adaptable. At times, there’s a lot to juggle, but it’s rewarding work.

Pros

One of the strengths of working in the People Team is the transparency across our areas. Information is shared clearly, and it’s generally easy to understand priorities and how different pieces of work fit together. There is also a supportive culture, including from senior leaders within the team. People are approachable, and it’s usually straightforward to ask questions or get guidance when needed. Teams tend to be aligned around common goals, and there is an effort to recognise the contribution of different roles. Successes are shared, which helps maintain a sense of cohesion.

Cons

The main challenges relate to the pace and workload. The environment can be fast‑moving, and during busier periods it can require longer hours, which may be demanding at times. There are also high expectations, which can sometimes create additional pressure, depending on workload and deadlines.
