THE most overrated firm in all the land!

Pros

Highly sophisticated practice areas

Cons

It's amazing what a few puff pieces on Above the Law can do for a firm! The mythical Quinn Emanuel may have once been a highly specialized litigation boutique firm but these days it's nothing more than a slave to the almighty Profits Per Partner (PPP), all else be damned. The powers that be at QE attempt to boost the PPP by cutting corners wherever possible including but not limited to: refusing to hire competent staff, occupying crummy office spaces and being a good 10 years behind as far as IT goes. The result of all this is that associates spend an inordinate amount of time on nonsense in addition to the 12+ hours a day of actual work. And no the fact that you can wear shorts and flip flops to work doesn't make it worth it!

Pros

Great medical benefits, nice christmas bonus, attorneys are GREAT people and very easy-going! They are appreciative of staff. Best thing about this place is NO DRESS CODE. When I mean no dress code I mean you can definitely come to work in flip flops and yoga pants.

Cons

Turnover is high. The firm as a whole, including management, do very little for secretaries. Salaries are not at market value and grossly under. Management is inexperienced and there is little structure. Firm expects secretaries to have a handle on every aspect including marketing and accounting but they don't pay enough. Small minuscule increments, you will barely see in your paycheck. TERRIBLE LEAVE, if you work here don't expect to take days off, you will be expected to run on their schedule especially if your attorney goes to trial. My advice, use this as a stepping stone to your next job and make great connections with attorneys.

Pros

Can't think of anything that is pro employees. Company is very stingy and pay scale is way below market rate. Most support staff are subpar and lazy. Technology is subpar (company does not have an intranet page, despite its size and number of offices worldwide)

Cons

Too many to list -- from culture to attitude (politics of vicious and secret control) of SF management and level of education of old timers.
