Pros

Coworkers were great, they provided scrubs, they were active in many charities, really good training (six years ago) we were able to work fairly independently

Cons

Company was very cheap with supplies and I sometimes did not have the equipment to do my job. Also, they turned my 6 year position in a Dr.'s office into a float position with no monetary compensation.

Pros

For recent grads working retail and hospitality it is a place to get lab experience. For most, the money is decent.

Cons

Where to begin.....if you want a 9-5 type schedule, forget about it. This puts strain on not only your health, but you relationships with friends and family because you are likely on very early morning our night shift because only people who have been there for years have the day shift. There is no shift differential for that either. All locations are chronically understaffed even though management claims that they cant hire anyone else. Many of the techs have a "do as little work as possible, but enough to not get into trouble" mentality, and they will stab you in the back to make themselves look good. As such, overtime is an everyday occurrence, which at first is nice until you're burnt out and then they tell you that the overtime costs are too high and you need to cut back on it. The derm lab I was in had constant turn over due to this and the poor poor POOR management. Everyone that is still there is trying to get out other than the manager favorites. No one at the managerial level has anything more than a MT, MLT, HT, etc and they are the ones running the company and getting promoted. They play favorites with those just like them and ride the hard working degree holders like slaves. Other things to consider are the benefits. High deductible with high cost from paycheck and it covers very little. Vacation time is average, but there are only 6 days off for holidays and if they fall on the weekend, you do not get the Friday or Monday off. My only advice to anyone applying, or on the edge about accepting a position with Quest/Dermpath Diagnostics, is that is you have any offer (and I mean ANY) take that one instead for your own sanity. The money is not worth the hassle.
