Pros

The local plant where I work is a great environment. Local management tries to leverage talent when they see it and advocate for the opportunities of both blue and white collar workers. Within the larger corporation there are a lot of opportunities for growth and education.

Cons

A very large global corporation makes everyone a small fish in a big pond. The strong, centralized management doesn't leave much opportunity for discretionary decisions. Priorities that may be good for one region can be difficult for another to work to.

Pros

Managers do not wear uniforms nor carry weapons. The factory does not have armed guard towers nor electrified, barbed wire fences.

Cons

On the other hand... workers are seen as only a means to an end. The bottom line is production quota, and if you fall behind... there's usually hell to pay. This demeaning task is usually performed by a Kapo, who was once a production worker too -- but found a way out [by supervising other workers]. Very negative environment, where workers get "burned out" fairly quickly. High turnover.

Pros

Weekly pay, decent benefits and a few good coworkers are the only reason this job gets three stars from me.

Cons

The lack of professionalism is beyond challenging. The culture is insidious and great workers see no need to make a career here. I personally do not feel valued and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Management has senior employees tattle telling on other adults, while the people doing all the telling run amuck. The culture is one where great workers will be thrown under the bus.
