Cons
Philz Coffee likes to tout its mission of “bettering everyone’s day,” but working there felt like the opposite. Over time, I witnessed the company rolling back benefits and failing to support its employees. Instead of backfilling critical positions, they simply piled more responsibilities on the remaining staff, spreading people thin across multiple tasks. One particularly baffling move was forming a so-called employee feedback committee with none other than the VP sitting right on it. The message was clear: “Tell us how you feel… while we quietly ignore it.” Having a senior executive “listening” to employees while holding a position of power? It’s like asking your boss to rate your performance review—unethical, counterproductive, and frankly bad business. It’s astonishing that a company so clueless about running a production facility could make it this far. Case in point: the warehouse went years without fire alarms. Working here felt like watching a company sprint downhill, trying to outrun its inevitable fall. At the end of the day, Philz’ slogan should be “bettering the bottom line”—def not their employees’.
