Pros

Pfizer is the industry leader and its global reach allows colleagues to experience a great deal of work diversity. While the glory days of the pharmaceutical industry were the late 1990's and early 2000's, Pfizer will continue to be an industry powerhouse. The company is diverifying its core pharmaceutical approach by expanding into biotech, and reorienting it's sales and marketing force away from product-based approaches to customer-based strategies.

Cons

The industry is in the dumps and Pfizer is going through a particularly tough time; a hangover from the roaring 1990's. As a result, some talented leaders have left (or been asked to leave) and many of those left are overwhelmed. I think this is a temporary solution, but the cost-savings exercises we are experiencing has taken much of the fun out of working for Pfizer. If the salary and benefits weren't so good, I probably would have left already.

Pros

The benefits are excellent. I have a $15 co-pay for doctors' visits and pay $0 for prescriptions. There are many health & wellness initiative available like stress relief counseling, health screenings, etc. Pfizer has many locations so I've had lots of opportunities to travel to different sites, although travel is being curtailed due the current financial situation. Pfizer has an excellent technological infrastructure- I have a reliable laptop, blackberry, etc. When something breaks, the Help Desk fixes it quickly, unlike many of my friends' companies. Lately senior management has been doing a really good job of communicating what's going on to the lower levels. Most of the people who work here are good to work with. And most importantly, Pfizer medicines save lives- it's hard to argue w/ that when that's your mission statement.

Cons

Due to the two massive acquisitions (Warner Lambert and Pharmacia), the company has become too big, with too much bureaucracy, which sometimes makes it difficult to get things done. After five years of working here, I finally am starting to feel like I understand the business and have developed enough contacts so I know who to call when I need to get something accomplished. It seems like we are currently paying for past management's mistakes- there is definitely a lot of worry about the loss of exclusivity for Lipitor and other products. Sales are lagging, the stock price is falling, and everyone is wondering how this is all going to pan out.

Pros

Fantastic benefits package; reasonable vacation/sick day policies.

Cons

No clear promotion path or rhyme/reason as to why some people get promoted and others don't. Salary scales are obtuse. Nobody I know is happy with what they are making.
