Pros

Large Company, Great Benefits and Salary. They do have top of the line products and great name recognition. The budgets are down recently, but there is still alot of money to spend to drive business.

Cons

There have been a lot of layoffs....many large aquisitions - makes for low job security. The new pharma guidelines headed by pfizer are counterproductive to being able to make an influence. Lawyers rule the roost in sales....everything need to be approved by legal and it is monitered. Any speaker programs can be spot audited and there are many many rules which make it difficult for those who want to sell off of anything but the company approved script.

Pros

There are plenty of resources available because of the sheer size of Pfizer. The pay and benefits are exceedingly good. Training at Pfizer is good and it enables the job to be done easily. There is not a lot of travel at Pfizer.

Cons

Pfizer is on the downslope of its glory years. Most of its drugs are either just off patent protection or are to go off patent protection within the next few years. management is more focused on meeting quarterly goals than they are in creating a dynamic and inclusive work environment. I would recommend waiting until 2012 to pursue a job at Pfizer.

Pros

Important mission. Mostly ethical management. Some extraordinarily talented people and committed people. Excellent benefits and, depending on where in the company you sit, usually great flexibility with respect to work-life balance. Philanthropically generous.

Cons

While there are some exrtraordinary colleagues, there is staggering mediocrity hiding within a still-bloated organization. Highly bureaucratic and hierarchical, it can be difficult for innovative and dynamic leaders to find their way. It can be exceedingly difficult to move within the organization across functions or divisions. Neither performance management nor talent planning is done particularly well. Despite the rhetoric about world-class science, the company feels as though it has given science backseat for the last decade. Rather trying to innovate growth organically, Pfizer has become purely a deal-making machine. This can be more than a bit demoralizing for those who came to the company to engage scientific discovery with the best; the best scientists, I'm afraid, are elsewhere. The fatigue associated with the constant merging and restructuring and right-sizing is definitely taking its toll on staff.
