      Pfizer's acquisitions make it difficult to develop internal talent

      Pros

      Pfizer offers a good salary and benefits package. While the company is no longer as well respected as it was a decade ago, it is still a known name and therefore a good place to start your career. In terms of location, HQ in manhattan make it easy to commute to and a great option for people who want to live in the city. While I am overall negative on career trajectory at Pfizer, there are always opportunities to try different functions and get a broad experience across the commercial space.

      Cons

      The numerous acquisitions have left the company with top-heavy employment base. The recent reorg has helped clean things up by shifting directors and vps to multiple business units, but the net effect is still that there are few decent promotion opportunities. I personally found that I was often praised with small "star points" ($100 bonus) but actual promotions and raises were few and far between.

      Great benefits & 401k, competitive salary, company car

      Cons

      Company announces layoffs, on average 1-2x/year, only to then hire new employees, so that when cuts are announced, it's the more tenured, higher paid, employees that are "let go."
