Dying culture and company

Pros

Lots of great people are still working here for now, until they can find something better or new leadership eliminates them as part of their business "strategy." Used to have great culture and be genuinely customer-centric before new leadership wrecked this. Remote work flexibility and decent pay.

Cons

New leadership is reckless, cruel, and incompetent. Constant layoffs (some acknowledged publicly, some secret), hypocrisy, gaslighting, total lack of empathy, and continual poor business decisions. We've laid off many of our top performers to get "lean,” only to add dozens of new VP and Director roles that previously didn't exist ... New leadership seems to have no clue what they're doing and cares more about moving the stock price $1-$2 short term than employee retention, engagement, or livelihood or longer-term business success. Nobody I've talked to enjoys working here anymore or has any semblance of psychological safety. Company is a sinking ship, and everyone still here seems to be looking for other opportunities.

Pros

Not much, ok benefits but there are still far better options. Most employees think the benefits are great because they're fed that by PayPal executive leadership.

Cons

Working for PayPal is like being in an abusive relationship. They build tou up, lie, tell you what they think you want to hear. Then they lay off a ton of people, put more work on you for no additional pay, and promote the do-nothings in NY. Horrible leadership brought over by Dan from Amex. Now that there is a new CEO they should clean house of these idiots that tore the company to shreds. Give them a taste of their own medicine. Besides, they gave themselves their own golden parachutes so they won't even care.

Pros

-The nature of my role is that I interface with scores of engineering teams, analysts etc. across PayPal on products that get released all the time. It’s an exciting space to be in -Visibility is very good, at least in my org -Unlimited PTO (if you can use it) -The investopia slack channel -Focus on gender diversity

Cons

-Reorgs (and rearchitectures depending on the domain) happen nonstop -Heavy politics. You can tell if you’ve done a project well if three other teams try to take credit for it -My WLB is dismal. I work 12+ hrs daily. One time I had an ongoing personal emergency (which I notified my team about) and could only work a 40 hour week and I got publicly berated; I was told I needed to “grow up” and work more than 60 hours per week -Low Pay. We already make less than industry standard, and I recently found out that I’m getting paid 20% less than the rest of my team. Upper management responded by raising my salary 3% 😐 -I have a technical background and I’m in a technical role. However a significant part of my job comes from my boss volunteering to do PowerPoints for their bosses and then farming it out to me -Be careful who you tell your ideas to. If you show interest in something or if you think something could be more optimized, they will make you do it and own/run it addition to your day job.
