Pros

The atmosphere is very relaxed and you can dress however you want - which is great to foster individuality and boost morale. The work day usually starts around 10:00am - compared to the rest of the world that starts at 9:00am. As awful as the subject matter is these days, talking about MTV shows is still more fun than talking about stock losses, pharmaceuticals or paper.

Cons

The pay at MTV isn't even close to competitive. There is a sense of arrogance from senior management that assumes that people will work there for less money because "it's MTV". Unfortunately, they are right. MTV is also very unreliable. You can hear one thing on Monday and it won't be true by Wednesday. Also, the incidence of mediocre employees "failing upward" is staggering. The company is over-dependent on Perma-Lancers (long term freelance employees) but still treats them like crap by scaling back benefits and requiring them to leave after 9 months even when their services are still requried.

Pros

My coworkers have been my saving grace. Incredible people who look out for one another and help when they are needed. My coworkers always had my back and made me feel appreciated despite terrible treatment from Execs. Company has great benefits

Cons

ViacomCBS has tainted my view on the industry as a whole. I received zero training at the start of my employment. I’ve endured bullying and mental abuse from sr. Level executives. I was taken advantage of due to my junior level position and little experience in the industry. I’ve been yelled at, made to complete demeaning tasks, and had false accusations made against me. Several complaints to HR have fallen on deaf ears. Execs are allowed to get a way with treating their staff horribly. Being an assistant on my team, there was little opportunity for growth. Execs did not care to help me grow and I was often provided work with little to no context making it difficult to succeed. I experienced daily micro aggressions from my execs. Because of this, I faced anxiety that I am now seeking professional help with. Execs expect you to be accessible around the clock. I was expected to respond to emails and slacks within 1 minute. If I took any longer , my whereabouts would be questioned. I faced retaliation from execs after going to HR. Execs began micro managing me and sent emails for every thing they felt was not done right. It became evident a case was being built against me even though I’ve been there for over a year with little to no issues regarding my work. I was over worked and undervalued. Supporting multiple execs while receiving lower compensation compared to someone only supporting one. Rarely received constructive feedback. My execs were eager to let me know what I was doing wrong and not doing right. Execs care more about their reputation than the well being of their team. They expect their team to go above and beyond without providing proper compensation. Execs can get a way with performing at a sub par level while their team handles majority of the work.

DO NOT WORK HERE

Pros

SOME of the people are fun. I've made some great friends here. fun happy hours, etc

Cons

DO NOT WORK HERE if you don't want to be treated like a slave. There is rarely upper movement, politics are horrible, and Directors and above are old dinosaurs who are so stuck in their ways. The media industry is 10+ years farther along than Viacom is. All upper management talks about is the heyday of MTV. But now that the ratings and viewership is declining people are fearful for their jobs, creating terrible politics. You get laid off if the SVP personally doesnt like you or you promoted if you're in the SVPs ear. Oh & gossip is everyones favorite thing to do. I swear this place is just a grown up college Greek System. Also do not expect HR to ever help you. I've gone to them before for some serious issues with upper management and they were NO help. All SSEs + CSRs complain all day about how much they hate this place. Seriously do yourself a favor and DO NOT WORK HERE
