Pros

-Without going in-house, it really does have *some* of the highest wages for private security -Very thorough online training program -Varied work environment, even at permanent sites -Benefits, sick pay, vacation pay, employee perks -Good stepping stone for future careers

Cons

Some of the highest wages in the industry? That's not exactly saying much. I made more money pushing shopping carts than I did during my first four years as a guard. The work can at times be physically exhausting, emotionally draining, and above all else, dangerous, and it's definitely not a relief when you see what your pay is. All of the training material, while thorough, appears to be geared towards BC and features some outdated laws that you DON'T want your guards using (i.e.: assault by trespass is no longer in the C.C.C). Great way to cause confusion! I could put up with this, and have, but there's one thing that I cannot, and it's the rampant nepotism and cronyism. I work at a site where the site supervisor controls scheduling and greatly influences who gets what job. Time and time again I have seen job openings posted as a formality only because they already have the person they want for the job. When shifts are being filled, there are certain people on the call list who don't get called simply because the scheduler doesn't like them. Shifts are given to new hires before longer-serving guards based on...I have no idea, but it's not on availability. Starving people for hours is a common practice for people they don't like, and it's absolutely disgusting. I won't lie, I've benefit from this practice and scored a ton of overtime when I needed it. However, that doesn't mean it's not fair, and you can expect it if you work for Paladin Security.
