Great organisation, but badly managed

Lovely warm-hearted people with great values, focus on social change, relatively good in raising most important societal issues, for an NGO high level of influence

Cons

Low quality mid-level and even top-level management, too big and hierarchical, low level of accountability, lack of an open discussion culture, in 2014 and 2015 organisation underwent a major reshuffle and restructuring associated with many problems

Pros

The results of our work at Oxfam can be seen on the ground, and even if there may be even one colleague who clearly slipped through the cracks for the past 15 years, focusing on the work makes up for it by far.

Cons

It's certainly discouraging when you work alongside career-focused colleagues who have lost all sense of altruism or sympathy for those we are trying to help - even though it was only one colleague, they were in a high-level position that made me question Oxfam's internal promotion.

Cons

Huge gap between upper management and staff. Huge gap in salaries. Not enough transparency. Very little room for growth and management does not go a good job of retaining talent. I've seen too many great people with company knowledge leave the organization.
