Pros

Inspiring mission, central place in a global organisation, organisation with a great reputation and influence

Cons

influence within Oxfam is restrained due to lack of resources and the voluntary nature of the support of the currently 17 Oxfam organisations

Pros

Great chance to experience working at the hub of an international NGO. Lots of travel opportunities. Lots of opportunities to work with people around the world. Friendly working culture (at least it was when I was there), with social events. Laid back dress code.

Cons

Very process orientated. Difficult to 'get things done' due to onerous sign-off procedures. Very administrative and far removed from the field work on the ground. Lack of middle ranking jobs, so can be difficult to progress and be promoted.
