Pros

- Surrounded by great talents and passionate individuals who genuinely want to build the right product and serve our customers. - I constantly find myself amazed by the quality of work from my fellow designers. Many of them worked for big tech companies before yet all of them are down to earth and always offering help. - This is not a place you would feel bored. You can go broad at solving a problem that spans through multiple phase of the home transaction lifecycle, or go deep into perfecting a specific workflow and its interaction to maximize user experience.

Cons

- It is a hyper-growth startup and the product team is still working its way to maturity. There'll be processes that you need to figure out and sometimes it's not easy. Fortunately, everybody I've seen is open-minded, so if handled properly it can be very rewarding. - Revolutionizing home buying/selling IS a tough challenge! It's probably one of the few categories where the people who're designing the product can't easily calibrate expectations and acceptance based on their own past experience - not everybody has bought/sold a home.

Pros

- The founders and executive leadership team are invested in design. The design organization has a seat at the table, contributes strategically to company vision and plans, and is fully funded across product design, brand design, research, and content. - The Opendoor mission hinges on great design. We're redesigning the entire real estate process and aim to create a simple, seamless experience for people buying and selling homes. The company knows we need excellent design and a world class design organization to achieve that mission. - Genuinely good people. Opendoor has a very human-centric culture. We care about the people we serve, we care about the people we work with. No one in the company is aggressive or insensitive. We respect each other. We have fun together. - Stage of the company provides tremendous growth opportunities. We're growing rapidly and there's so much work to do. People regularly get the chance to step up and take on bigger challenges and more responsibilities than they ever have before in their careers. No one feels boxed in or limited in their growth. Our CEO frequently says he wants everyone at Opendoor doing the best work of their careers. It feels that way to me.

Cons

- Can feel chaotic. We're creating a brand new process for real estate transactions, building a viable business around it, and scaling a company at the same time. Things change a lot. It can feel confusing or thrashy. People who need stability have difficulty here.
