Pros

Company was great early on and appeared to really have momentum

Cons

Management in general. Lack of overall guidance. Fear culture after layoffs started with looming uncertainty. No ability to do projects that would actually matter. Answering weekly to metrics we had little to no ability to change - though this was the basis of our "performance". Would never recommend this company to anyone.

Horrible Company

Pros

The work from home environment.

Cons

They are driven by money and are extremely cheap. They truly do not care about their employees. It is all about their bottom line. Now all they care about is their IPO. They will do anything and everything to go public, even if that means that the employees are negatively affected.

Serious Management Favoritism and Lacking Pay

Pros

I had no issues with flexibility and worklife balance.

Cons

You will not advance unless you're friends with someone outside of work and management plays favorites, especially in the fulfillment roles. My manager advised a co-worker that "numerous complaints" were brought to her attention about my co-worker from people in different areas, yet when he (co-worker) made attempts to rectify any behavior that would cause such opinions, he was informed of rumors and was told him that everybody loved him and no such complaints were heard of. Rumors ran rampant about this manager looking for any reason to fire people she didn't like. Overheard conversations proved this to be true as well as proved my manager to be a liar who simply played favorites, which made me extremely uncomfortable. I caught my manager and other managers lying and sometimes blatantly misinforming us during meetings. My manager would often do things incorrectly as she was promoted into the position never having worked it and would get argumentative when any of her missteps were brought to her attention or correction was attempted. She openly argued and belittled us in front of people if she didn't like our ideas, what we had to say, or if we disagreed with her. She didn't do everything incorrectly, but her management style was always her way or no way and she openly admitted to being a micromanager, which often resulted in poor production or failure because she wouldn't listen to us if we told her something wasn't going to work or pre-existent workflow proved more efficient. Lastly, their COVID layoff was done publicly in a companywide mandatory meeting and we were given ZERO NOTICE. We were told that we were no longer allowed on the premises and our belongings would be mailed to us versus us retrieving them. Some people received their belongings in boxes that were beyond unreasonably bigger than necessary, which resulted in items being broken in transit. Some people I've spoken to stated that some belongings were missing and/or trash was found in their boxes. It felt as though rather than packaging our things in a suitable box, they found it acceptable to negligently swipe everything off the desks to fall into a box on the floor. Overall, I appreciated the schedule and flexibility, but I am disgusted with how employees were treated, especially upon exit, and wouldn't return if given the chance.

First, we want to thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We never want anyone to leave Opendoor with a negative experience. Unfortunately, due to COVID safety precautions, we were limited in how we were able to communicate with employees and unable to allow anyone to visit the offices to retrieve their belongings (in fact, we still have that policy in place and our offices remain closed). We regret that there were some issues with the shipping of items -- it certainly was never anyone’s intent to damage your things or add anything that would be considered trash. It is important to address the manager’s behavior you outlined -- it is absolutely not tolerated at Opendoor. If you would like to share additional information about your experience so we can address it appropriately, please feel free to reach out to the People team.
