Good benefits (i.e. six weeks annual leave, non-taxable income, pension, health insurance). The mandate of the Organization has a global impact and you see concrete results from your work. Well-established administrative regulations and procedures. Opportunities for work/life balance i.e. flex-time, telecommuting, sabbaticals.

Cons

High-turnover of senior management due to limitations in period of service. Bureaucratic. Hierarchical culture. Opportunities for upward mobility are rare and often extremely competitive.

Pros

The location, salary and the access to international negotiations in and around the UN are fascinating. I would advice anyone who is interested in working with issues regarding security and human rights in the arena of International Organisations to consider the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. It delivers excellent access to the UN as well, while being a little easier to get in to.

Cons

There is limited possibilities to receive formal training and to move up in the hierarchy
