Pros

Opportunity to work in various countries on interesting projects. Also, a good opportunity to work with people of different backgrounds, nationalities, beliefs and etc.

Cons

Secondment system really sucks. If you are from a poor country then be ready to live on Board and Lodging Allowances (BLA) only. However, international contracted mission members get UN net salary commensurate with their grade and BLA. Poor management in some departments/units. Objectives are sometimes set unclear and that leads to misunderstanding or event conflicts with colleagues/supervisors. I notices that some international contracted positions (but not only) are occupied by insiders. OSCE makes a public announcement on a vacancy, hundreds of people apply and... an inside candidate is selected. Someone can say that is a coincidence . However, if you make some analysis, you can find that 60 to90% (dependent on certain executive structure) of international contracted posts are occupied by insiders.

Pros

OSCE offers a wild range of opportunities for new experiences and skills development. It is a field-focused organization with a real culture of operations. Ideal for young talents wishing to involve themselves in international affairs with a concrete goal, or for more seasons professional who are seeking a job where their sense of initiative will be valued.

Cons

Workload can be challenging (is it really a Cons?) and depending on the duty station, living conditions can be stark. But the main backside of this organization is the recruitment system of secondment for international staff, which means that applicants have to go through their respective national foreign office (OSCE offers a limited number offers limited number of contracted positions , mostly at the Vienna HQ).

Pros

A lot of freedom to innovate in certain areas; great opportunity to be part of a complex organisation.

Cons

Very slow and inconprehensibly political and demotivating internal and external recruiting procedures.
