Pros

A good programme to gain international exposure and field experience in a wide array of regions.

Cons

Low salary (especially when in Vienna), no additional benefits, short term contracts (9 months only, as compared to the UN's JPO) and no possibility to extend the contract. There are no possibilities to continue with the OSCE given that there are rare opportunities for middle management positions (3-6 years exp.). All the trainings are useless for the organization and the JPO if they don't stay in the organization.

Pros

tax-free salaries, location of the headquarters (Secretariat) in one of the world's most beautiful and comfortable cities, 6 weeks of vacation annually

Cons

diminishing benefits, probable contraction (i.e. downsizing and redundancies), lack of vision from senior management, high turnover due to the non-career nature, which impairs continuity and institutional memory, infighting with the field offices and other locations, "consensus" decision making, which often leads to paralysis
