Pros

Income potential is ridiculous. Great company support and software access, training is solid. Commission is straight forward. Huge fan of the managing partner in my office

Cons

Very difficult to succeed in finance in general. Like most companies there is no salary. If you can survive on scraps for 3 years you can easily make life changing money.

Pay your agents!

Pros

-Good way to get into the industry -Good to get health/life licenses -They will back you for your SIE, Series 7 etc...

Cons

-.....so when you get your licenses find a legit place and bail -The whole goal is to sell to family and friends. People you love will ghost or view you differently -Commission only job. They will tell you theres $500 a week stipends, but if you arent producing, you dont get it is whats not told to you initially. -They give you NO LEADS. ZERO. NONE. The one time they offered "10 aged leads to agents who sign up" 8 of them were disconnected numbers. -If you want to join the in house events group, its $50 dollars off your ledger monthly -Useless meetings to try and "improve morale" but its just a j.o. fest of the same top agents. -You manager will be nonstop hiring people at all times of the year. His focus will be on others and not on you as he has to worry about his own numbers for his higher ups watching. -They advertise making 100k a year on Linkedin or Indeed. Shouldn't even be legal to propose that. -90% of the team of other new hired agents I started with when I joined was gone by the time I left.

New York Life Response

Thank you for your feedback. For the first 3 years of an agent’s career, a manager is responsible for providing training, mentorship and support to help their agents succeed on their own. After this period, our agents are encouraged to have an entrepreneurial and independent mindset and proceed as if they are responsible with establishing their own financial services practice. We like to think of our agents as being in business “for themselves but not by themselves.” For this reason, this career is not for everyone. We take your concerns seriously and would like more information. We encourage you to email us at helpusimprove@newyorklife.com if you would like to share specific details about your experience.
