Pros

I've worked at the National Safety Council for over 7 years now and I can honestly say I enjoy my time spent there. I am proud to say that I work for an organization that is dedicated to saving lives and promoting safety. The employees are passionate and managers are caring. There was time when I needed a work/life balance & through communication and support from my manager and HR they were able to provide that for my family and I. I will be forever grateful! Time has passed and I was blessed with a promotion and have also seen others grow within the organization. Our new president is genuine, caring and dedicated. Within the few years as our president, she has turned things around. We have added new job positions, we are more involved with the media, our building has gone through a modern renovation and new and improved technology has been added to our meeting rooms and so much more. NSC has great benefits, yearly functions, flexibility, room to grow within and staff members who are all dedicated to promoting safety. I really couldn't ask for a better organization.

Cons

NSC should reach out more to drivers. Not many people know that after taking our online defensive driving course at www.nsc.org they could forward their certificate of completion to their personal insurer for a possible discount...of course each insurance company varies and they would have to find out if they qualify for the discount.

Pros

It is so rewarding working 40+ hours per week knowing that you're working towards a great mission, saving lives and preventing injuries. You will not find more committed people at any employer. Work-life balance is fantastic, compensation is good, and benefits are strong for a nonprofit. The company Culture is most definitely improving led directly by our CEO, a dedicated Culture Leadership Team, and 20+ culture champions.

Cons

I've worked at 6 very different companies in my career (Fortune 500 to small startups) and not one was perfect... turns out the grass isn't greener and most people that I stay in touch with that left NSC wish they were back. A previous post talked about boat sinkers at NSC and yes there are some but every company has them and they eventually they work themselves out.

Pros

Not very many pro's here. The building is large and they have plenty of space. The CEO and VP's offices are larger than most apartments.

Cons

They cut benefits and raised pay and bonuses for just the top executives. They fired most of the staff dozens of times over again in the last several years. CEO has no clue what is going on and believes the lies of the executive team.
