Institutionalised culture of poor leadership
Pros
Good opportunity for problem solving, members of staff are hard working and dedicated, day to day responsibilities are varied.
Cons
There is a poor/almost non existent provision of leadership training. The leader/management dichotomy is poorly understood, and seldom applied. Toxic leadership traits are rife throughout the company. They have become so prolific as genuinley skilled leaders leave the company to work elsewhere as there are few motivating factors to remain at NEXT (poor pay, removal of cash bonus for coordinators, lack of CPD). As such the individuals who remain at NEXT and hold management positions are often out of their depth and lack the neccessary emotional intelligence, patience, and professionalism that are generally expected of individuals holding a command role. While this is by no means a universal role, as talented leaders do work their way up the promotion ladder in the company, one feels that it is generally a rare pleasant occurence, as opposed to a general occurence.
