Pros

Customer focus - Next definitely has a 'customer first' attitude, and is always looking for ways to do what's right for the customer. Data - The amount of data the business has access to is huge, and the reports created are really good and simple to use. Bonus - The bonus was very strong (obviously this depends on company performance). Canteen - The canteen is pretty good, and food isn't expensive. Staff Discount - 25% off own brand product, 10% off branded product.

Cons

Culture - The company's culture is dull & slightly toxic. You would of thought working for the one of the largest retailers in the UK would have some buzz about it, but honestly there was nothing. There is no excitement to working here at all. The work environment can also get a bit toxic, and it's not uncommon to see someone walk over to a desk gossiping about someone else in a negative way. Surprisingly, it was the senior management who participated in this the most. Workload & Work / Life Balance - Workload at Next can get very extreme, and it's not distributed evenly due to the way the business is structured. The department is massively under resourced and this can get stressful at times & intrudes upon your time outside of working hours. Working through your lunch break unpaid is the norm. Working extra hours unpaid & unnoticed is the norm. Getting emails outside of office hours is the norm. Systems - The systems at Next are outdated and fragile. It's beyond desperate that they need to upgrade them. Something breaks almost every single day and troubleshooting takes up a lot of time, which takes away capacity to do the actual job requirements. Pension - Next only pay the legal minimum requirement of pension contributions of 3%.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your experience at NEXT. We're glad to hear that you appreciate our customer-first focus, the robust data systems, and the bonus structure, as well as the perks like the canteen and staff discounts. However, we're deeply concerned by the issues you raised regarding the work culture, workload, and systems. Creating a positive and engaging environment is critical, and it's disheartening to hear that you found the culture dull and occasionally toxic, especially involving senior management. We take this feedback seriously and will review how we can foster a more supportive and motivating workplace. We also understand that workload distribution and work/life balance are key factors in job satisfaction, and we’re actively looking at how we can improve staffing and reduce stress. Regarding our systems, we know how crucial reliable tools are to productivity, and your feedback reinforces the need for investment and upgrades in this area. Lastly, we'll review our pension offering to ensure we're staying competitive in that regard. Thank you again for your honesty—your feedback is invaluable in helping us grow and improve.

Pros

Average salary. The initial onboarding process was well-structured, and nice cafeteria.

Cons

Joined Next with high hopes and a strong commitment to contributing effectively to the team. Unfortunately, my experience turned out to be quite disappointing. Despite my enthusiasm and effort, I was let go before completing my probation period, which I believe was due to unfair treatment. While both my manager and team members encouraged asking for help and support, it quickly became apparent that seeking assistance was viewed negatively. When I reached out for guidance as one would naturally do in the early stages of a new role, I found that my efforts were used against me, with the team and manager interpreting my requests as an indication that I didn't know my work. This was extremely disheartening, especially just 3 months into the role. Additionally, the technology stack was outdated, further hindering my ability to contribute effectively. I feel that I was not given a fair opportunity to demonstrate my abilities or to adapt to the company's environment. The lack of genuine support made this experience far from reflective of a supportive or growth oriented workplace.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, and I'm sorry to hear that your time at NEXT did not meet the expectations you had when you joined. We appreciate your positive comments about our onboarding process and facilities, but it's clear that your overall experience fell short of what we strive to provide. We regret that you felt unsupported during your probation period. Starting a new role can be challenging, and it's important that all employees feel comfortable seeking help and guidance, especially in the early stages. Your feedback highlights areas where we need to improve in terms of fostering a more supportive environment, ensuring that requests for assistance are met with understanding and encouragement rather than judgment. We also take your concerns about the technology stack seriously. It's crucial that our teams have the tools and resources they need to perform their roles effectively, and we will review this aspect to ensure it aligns with the demands of the work. Your advice to management is noted, and we agree that the probation period is designed to give new employees the time and space to integrate and grow within their roles. We are committed to reviewing our processes to ensure that every new team member is given a fair opportunity to succeed. Thank you again for your feedback. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours and hope that you find a role where you can truly thrive.
