Pros

GTO campus is nice, decent work / life balance

Cons

Management does NOT listen to it's engineers. Quite a few LARGE infrastructure decisions have been made by some top level executive that had lunch with someone at a large vendor. This isn't speculation, it is FACT. What is interesting here, is that Met employees have to go through ETHICS training every year. I don't think these executives do. Management will NOT fire dead weight. If you want to come work in a place and do nothing, and not worry about your job, this is your place.

Going downhill fast

Pros

The company is not too bad as long as you get a manager who likes you.

Cons

I am a long term employee who relocated from New Jersey to North Carolina. The company has really gone downhill in the recent years regards to nurturing and developing employees. The current management is very political and decisions are all made by thinking about the bottom line and not the employees. They change the rules as they go along to promote pet staff and most of the new opportunities are not even posted to keep employees in the dark.

Pros

* Allows you to draw a salary [very low] till you find something else. * Handful of nice genuine people [exception rather than the norm]. * Occasional free food [with no respect for dietary styles other than the good ole' fashioned southern style meat & potatoes]. * New buildings in Cary [all about form but no function]. * GREAT for mature employees who want to bridge retirement by clocking in and clocking out in a very very very traditional corporate setting.

Cons

Where does one start, so much to tell................ 1) Old school management and leadership with very hierarchical "us - Chiefs" and "them - Indians" culture. 2) Very antiquated technology yet the division in Raleigh is called "Global Technology Operations [GTO]". Don't believe they know the meaning of either word [global or technology]. 3) Struggles to define Innovation so force feeds the "innovation and transformation" drink at a week long on-boarding [which is nothing more than their feeble attempt to brainwash you]. 4) Big impressive titles but total bait and switch in roles and responsibilities once you start the job!!!!! 5) VERY POLITICAL environment. One one think it's a government entity with titles like "Chief of Staff, Secretary to Officer, etc., etc., etc.". 6) Nothing more than a big tent of mostly circus performers who have been let go from other companies and are now trying to establish themselves in position of power but are not empowered to do so at all. 7) TRANSFORMATION and INNOVATION are yet other big buzz word they they struggle to define or understand. 8) Titles are dime a dozen thus most managers and above would struggle to survive as worker bees in other companies around here. 9) Personal growth and career advancement absolutely non-existent unless you agree to be a robot for management. 10) Way below average pay and benefits compared to other companies in the area. 11) Preach and advertise flexible work environment but everyone is expected to be on-site at all times to "collaborate" [another buzz word] and do not support telecommuting to any extent in this day and age! 12) Company is all about image and image only! 13) Low morale, high attrition. I can go on and on but the bottom line is: 14) If you have a brain that you want to utilize and value what you bring to the table............DO NOT WORK AT METLIFE!!!!!
