Pros
It has a great work/life balance and most supervisors are great at working with you.
Cons
The quality of your work experiences is mostly dictated by which team you are on, if you are stuck with people who are more concerned about exploiting your efforts for their own advancement, then it can be hell. Who you know and who you kiss up to is definitely a big determining factor when it comes to moving up or changing job roles. There seems to be a constant fear that the little guy below you will do better than you, hence there exists a tendency of peer sabotage and taking credit for other people’s efforts. There is also a lack of recognition for in house talent and potential and suppression of those who perhaps choose not to pursue the expected path. In my job role in particular, I feel that the expectation is that you should stay in that same business function even if you feel that you would fare better elsewhere and even if you have made an effort to take steps to prepare yourself for a different role.
