Pros

It has a great work/life balance and most supervisors are great at working with you.

Cons

The quality of your work experiences is mostly dictated by which team you are on, if you are stuck with people who are more concerned about exploiting your efforts for their own advancement, then it can be hell. Who you know and who you kiss up to is definitely a big determining factor when it comes to moving up or changing job roles. There seems to be a constant fear that the little guy below you will do better than you, hence there exists a tendency of peer sabotage and taking credit for other people’s efforts. There is also a lack of recognition for in house talent and potential and suppression of those who perhaps choose not to pursue the expected path. In my job role in particular, I feel that the expectation is that you should stay in that same business function even if you feel that you would fare better elsewhere and even if you have made an effort to take steps to prepare yourself for a different role.

Pros

Collaborative, friendly environment in most office and most teams. Tons of resources and smart people on almost any HR consulting topic. Many opportunities to do interesting things, change and grow your capabilities / career, IF you take the initiative. Significant flexibility to work when and how you want, as long as you are getting your job done. Opportunities to work with all types of clients on all types of projects, big, small and innovative. Working on projects that improve the world and make a differece. Working with fun people who will go the extra mile for you, and who are truly interested in helping clients get great results. Learning from many diverse and talented collegues and clients.

Cons

As with any big company, there are times when things are broken / not working well and change comes slowly. At times it's easy to feel that there are too many buerocratic tasks added to the work day, diverting our attention and time away from the key tasks of doing great work for our clients. The administrative systems (billing, time entry, expenses, CRM, tech, telecom, etc.) have improved vastly over the years, but there's always room for improvement.
