Pros

Work life flexibility is very nice and health benefits are good.

Cons

As an internally high rated US IT employee, I have not had a base salary increase for several years, bonus pool smaller every year in the last 5 based on some contrived growth number they missed. North American colleagues that are outsourced only get one week of severance per service year. I always thought for a long term (10+ years ) employee that industry standard was twice that. Embarrassing. Hardly makes the high workload and inevitable termination worth waiting for. Stay away if you are in technology. No money here no matter talent or effort.

Pros

- Smart, inspiring, supportive peers. - Global reach provides opportunities for interesting projects, in particular if you're based in a larger office. - Size of company gives colleagues the opportunity to specialise or be more generalist. - Generally accommodating of flexible working (though can depend on manager).

Cons

- Leadership displays a complete lack of trust in colleagues on the ground. As an example, a new policy this year required senior leader approval for all expenses, even those that were directly related to the delivery of client work - essentially telling on-the-ground colleagues that they aren't trusted to make decisions in the best interest of the company. - Myopic focus on short-term business performance to please parent company shareholders - this not only hurts morale, but results in lots of wasted time on busy-work (forecasting sales and revenue multiple times per month, etc). - Terrible succession planning: businesses and departments go for long periods without leaders when one departs. - Very little formal training, and poor job of developing the next generation of leaders. - Compensation is poor, and limited investment in social/fun activities.

Pros

Fair pay. Decent benefits that are slowly corroding. They have 5 companies in one, so you can internally transfer around to do something differently. They have a good rotation program going that anyone can be involved in where you get to do a new job and network with employees across the country and the globe.

Cons

Constantly restructuring where it's unstable to hold a job longer than 12 months comfortably. People are snarky to save their own skins rather than team oriented to salvage camaraderie. Lay offs every 9 months as they "plan" for the future and then hire cheaper labor to do the job of 2 people who were paid decently for fair work. Dismal outlook.

Mercer colleague, Thanks for your thoughts – both on what is working for you at Mercer and where we need to improve. We are very proud of our rotational programs, as it is one of many opportunities for colleagues to explore different career paths , connect with each other and grow. The pace of change is faster than ever before so, like in many other companies, we strive to provide both stability for all of our colleagues while adapting to an environment that is ever-evolving, innovative and focused on the future of work and that involves a lot of changes. Please feel free to email us at ColleagueFeedback@Mercer.com if you would like to speak directly about your experiences and where we can improve.
