Pros

Flexible schedule. That’s pretty much it.

Cons

Managers NEVER communicate. They don’t rotate employees. Schedules are ALWAYS messed up.

Pros

There are so many employees coming in and out all the time that being five to ten minutes late is no big deal. It's almost impossible to get fired. They have no problem with rehiring college students who go away and come back for the summer and holidays. It's pretty easy to get your shifts switched if an event comes up that you want to attend. Managers also don't mind coworkers socializing so long as they're doing what they're supposed to do. You're allowed to have piercings, tattoos and any crazy hair you want; employees simply need to dress "business casual" as in clothes that aren't stained, ripped, and actually cover your body. There are always a variety of interesting characters that work there so you'll always be amused.

Cons

They seriously rip off their employees when it comes to pay. You are hired for minimum wage. Upon being hired in I was promised a raise once every six months. I only ever got one raise after the first six months, it didn't matter how good of an employee I was over the years. It's always very dusty in the store so those with allergies or sensitive eyes and respiratory systems can't work here. You're not allowed to have anything to read nor are you allowed to sit if you're unlucky enough to be stuck in the fitting room and you'd better have a strong bladder because you need to wait for a coworker to finish whatever they're doing and come cover you in order to use the restroom (this is understandable but honestly it really sucks). Lastly, there is also a lot of miserable coworker gossip that you have to ignore to keep your sanity.

Pros

-Paid weekly -Flexible (due to the lack of days/hrs) -10% discount? actually, that's about a $1 off of your purchase (seriously, so this doesn't even really count) and they rarely do the 20% discount for employees. They even offer the 10% to all customers if you get a credit card (which is all the cashiers are told to care about by management). Talk about making your employees feel appreciated.

Cons

I work at one of the busiest Marshalls' in Chicago (Six Corners) Where in the blue #ell do I begin? the person who posted "Never Again" is dead on!!! My old telemarketing job was honestly heaven compared to this place! (with way better pay. I took a cut) -NO HOURS: You will rarely get hours and can't do anything with your embarrassing checks (I was working 1-day weeks and 4hrs. a day for a few weeks) -SLAVE-DRIVERS: They're absolute slave-drivers!!! Doing the work of 2-3 people is the norm and management will get on your ass if something isn't completed. They take advantage of newbies if they see how well they work and give them more work to do because they can save money that way -FAVORITISM: Management picks favorites and treats those who do all the work like dirt (newbies. I actually snapped at a manager because he was picking on me in front of everyone and he backed off once I threatened to contact upper management. I have actually seen old associates laughing after they give orders and look on ahead as an associate does all the work. How amusing!) -THEY SEEM TO SEE TRIPLETS WHEN LOOKING AT YOU: Expect to be the ONLY person on the floor (having to do up to 2 price checks at a time is ridiculous) -WHAT PAY?: Shit-pay for the ridiculous amount of work you do -CHEAP: This store complains about the lack of payroll when they make $3 million a year (my particular store alone) -UNDERSTAFFED: They NEVER have enough associates on the floor or cash registers -NO PAYROLL? While we're all scrambling around and asking for more hours management will keep hiring new people but will never have them work the same shifts. Sometimes no one will be in a dept. for up to 4 hrs. -PAINFUL: Oh, did I forget to mention how badly your feet will hurt? pedicures don't last me a week. -DISGUSTING: One of the messiest Marshalls in the Chicagoland area. Customers destroy absolutely everything and we get blamed for it! -COME HERE, BOY: Because of the lack of hrs. they'll find themselves "needing" people and will expect you to be at their beck-and-call "can you come in, in about 15 minutes?" seriously? and if you say "yes" to them, expect to do more dirty work than usual. -RUDENESS: Inconsiderate customers who rip, throw everything in the store (and leave their drinks) and switch tickets not realizing that we can tell they've been switched b/c we know the ticket codes and you're actually wasting everyone's time because now a price-check will have to be done. Once a hat that was being sold turned out to be an old one that belonged to a customer who stole and just replaced that hat somehow. CANNOT WAIT TO LEAVE AND *NEVER* COME BACK!!!!!
