Pros

- Prestige (MIT's brand is one of the best) - Colleagues are extremely smart and are either well on their way to become, or already are, leaders in their respective fields - Strong entrepreneurial spirit, and multiple opportunities for securing seed funding for ventures

Cons

- Work-life balance is non-existent - Facilities constantly under construction which leads to a lot of noise pollution/can make concentration difficult - Faculty extremely overworked, and routinely neglect to fulfill their career development and mentorship duties for their students and post docs

Could be a little more progressive

Pros

MIT is very decentralized so it bears saying that my experience may be very different from others. Pros in my area are good work life balance, good benefits, and feeling like you are making a difference.

Cons

For a university that produces state of the art research, the administration is behind the times. I think that MIT could do more to become a innovative in it's administration. It is also difficult to find a good career path within the Institute.
