Pros

Very positive experience working as an undergrad in several labs on campus. Highly recommend UROP program, as well as various summer programs for students from other schools.

Cons

Not everyone has such a good experience. Finding a lab that is a good fit is important and can be difficult when you are looking at labs for the first time.

Pros

Egalitarian, mission driven, exciting, influential, impactful, human work environment. Very entrepreneurial "just do it" (build it / make it culture.) Lots of autonomy,

Cons

Surprisingly low tech in many systems and processes - quite bureaucratic procedures. Salaries can be quite stagnant. Not really growing so new opportunities may depend on waiting for people to leave or retire.
